K BBQ Factory is a Korean barbecue restaurant located at 3885 Venture Dr. The last inspection at the restaurant was conducted on November 6, 2024, in which it scored a perfect 100. In the inspection before that, on September 6, 2024, it had scored 95 points. However, on February 3, it could not score enough points to pass the inspection.
The inspection report attributed several foodborne illness risk factors at the restaurant to the lack of active managerial control by the person in charge. It is the responsibility of the PIC to ensure compliance with the food code, the report stated.
Inspectors saw an actively prepped box of potatoes kept on the floor, which had soapy mop water. Other instances of improper food storage causing the risk of cross-contamination were also observed. Inspectors saw raw chicken that had been removed from its original packaging above raw steak, raw briskets above fish cakes, and raw briskets above frozen mussels and ready-to-eat imitation crab meat.
The report also mentioned that two large containers of sliced kimchi and kimchi fried rice were kept at room temperature for more than four hours. Lettuce, lettuce salad, and scallion salad, which are supposed to be on time control, were missing time indicators.
Wet wiping cloths were seen on the prep tables in the main kitchen area. There were also employee belongings like phones, earbuds, and drink cups that were seen to be placed at unapproved places in the kitchen.
Inspectors reported these and other violations, and the restaurant had to face a deduction in points. The full report of the February inspection at K BBQ Factory has been released online to be accessed by the public.
As the restaurant failed this inspection, it will have to undergo another follow-up inspection that will happen within the next 10 days, by February 12. All the violations that have been mentioned must be resolved before the next inspection, failing which the restaurant may face permit suspension. A required reinspection will take place within the next 12 months as per standard protocol for failed inspections.
