In addition to packaged brews, Proper Hop Taphouse also has 20 taps for draft beer and a collection of single bottles and cans that customers can drink on-premise. There’s also a selection of wine, cider, hard seltzer, CBD seltzer, and non-alcoholic craft beer.

“All of my beer is housed in coolers, meaning we will always serve beer at the proper temperature, and nothing you buy to take home will ever be warm, giving you the highest quality product,” Ellrich said explaining where the business got its name. “Temperature will age beer very fast, and I want my customers to know I have the freshest beer around.”

But serving a proper beer isn’t just about the temperature, Ellrich said. It’s also about the proper style of glassware “that is also meticulously cleaned.”

The 2,100 square-foot building that houses Proper Hop Taphouse was vacant for a couple of years but just “needed some TLC.” During renovations, Ellrich and the team preserved the original floors in the building and we were able to repurpose the old wood that was removed during demolition. So, old beams are now baseboards and shelving behind the bar, and old plywood from the walls was used in framing out the bar. There’s also outdoor space for seating.

“I meticulously selected everything we have on our menu and a lot of the beers on my opening draft list are beers that mean something to me,” Ellrich said. “Like Sweetwater IPA — this beer is why I became a craft beer drinker and will always be available as my ‘house’ beer. People are also going to see a lot of Belgian beers and farmhouse ales, some that are very funky and obscure. If you’re looking for weird beer, keep your eye on my growing selection of single bottles.”

Ellrich grew up in East Cobb, right on the Roswell City line border, so naturally, he’s excited to be part of the Roswell business owner community.

“I’ve met so many amazing business owners and residents lately, everyone is so supportive and I just consider myself very lucky to be able to share my dream of delivering some of the best craft beer around.”
