UPDATE (January 29, 2018): Cowtippers’ Closure Has Been Delayed Following Community Outcry
Cowtippers Steaks & Spirits will soon swing its saloon doors closed for good.
The Piedmont Heights restaurant, at 1600 Piedmont Avenue NE, is set to shutter Sunday, January 28 after 25 years in business.
Jeff Landau, founder, and CEO of Metrotainment Cafes—the restaurant’s parent company—confirmed the news in a statement to What Now Atlanta Wednesday.
“..The restaurant has been a part of our restaurant group for a very long time, and we’re proud of the more than 20 years we have been in business, but with the changing climate of the city, we are going to close the restaurant and turn our attention to our other successful concepts including Hudson Grille, Einstein’s, Joe’s on Juniper, Hudson FC and Guaco Joe’s,” Landau said.
“Metrotainment Cafes still owns the property and we are weighing several options including selling the restaurant and property…”
In the interim, the space will be used for private events handled by Epic Events, Metrotainment’s catering company.
“We are thankful for the many years of patronage from Atlanta and looking forward to continued success with our other concepts as we continue to grow in this city.”
Established in 1993, Cowtippers is a casual steakhouse in a “honky tonk” atmosphere and an “avid supporter of the community, of whimsy, and of downright good old-fashioned fun,” according to the restaurant’s website.

My husband and I will be so sad about this….It has always been our “go to” when we just want some good food, casual, friendly….
What will we do?? When we are there, it seems to always be busy. Sad… just so sad…

This make me so sad. We go here all the time. One of the few places in Atlanta where you just get good food. Lord we will miss those fried pickles !!
It will take me a while to recover from this closure. I love Cowtippers and have been a regular patron for at least 15 years. For a long while friends knew where to find me on Friday night. I will really miss Cowtippers. The staff, the food, the ambience. It has been unique.

What a joke. We’ll fight to keep Smith’s and that cute shopping plaza, but it’s gone. Some developer will put some money in the politicians pocket and we’ll be looking at our next beautiful mid-rise apartment building. Can’t wait!
