Land formerly home to a Days Inn, at 230 N Finley Street, is now an active construction site where work is underway to build student housing development The William from the ground-up. As a first step in bringing the six-story project to fruition, the former hotel has been razed and the land is now being readied for vertical construction.

The incoming development will offer 370 bedrooms aimed primarily at University of Georgia students, according to the most recent project docs, filed with the city last year. The proposed unit breakdown is 41 one-bedrooms, 80 two-bedrooms, and 41 four-bedroom units, with 224 parking spaces in an attached deck.

Amenities will include an on-site cafe and bistro, group study rooms, a rooftop courtyard, and lounges on every floor, according to a project landing page, touting The William as being designed with “enhanced convenience and comfort specifically tailored to the student lifestyle.”

Vehicular entrances into the development will be built off of Finley Street and another on Reese Street. There will also be a pedestrian entrance off of Newtown Street, planning documents show. A timeline for the project’s completion is unclear and reps for developer William Fideli Investments were not immediately available for comment.
