UPDATE (Jan. 4, 2012): [Video] 3-Dimensional views of Midtown’s soon-to-open dual-branded hotel

Work will soon began on a rare dual-branded hotel at 10th and Williams streets in Midtown.

The project, an 11-story structure housing two Hilton flags (The Hilton Garden Inn and Homewood Suites By Hilton) was first announced in September, 2008 and was scheduled to open early this year.

Located at 97 Tenth Street northwest, this will be the first hotel built for the purpose of having two brands for two distinct customers under one roof in Atlanta.

James Scales with Long Engineering, Inc. filed a building permit with the City of Atlanta yesterday, Feb. 7, to commence construction.

“Hilton Garden Inn and Homewood Suites Hotel (10TH and Williams): Construction of a single structure, two multistory hotels, above grade parking garage and associated street scape.”

The Hilton Garden and Homewood Suites will have separate entrances and lobbies but share kitchen, fitness and meeting space facilities, according to J. Scott Trubey with the Atlanta Business Chronicle.

“The Hilton Garden, an upscale mid-priced hotel, will feature about 150 rooms, while the Homewood Suites will offer 110 extended-stay suites.”

In terms of operations, the hotels will share sales and marketing teams in addition to its Hilton reservation system.

For more information on the project, read the Atlanta Business Chronicle’s article announcing the project, published Sept. 2008.

Can Midtown support these hotel additions?

  1. I think Midtown can support these hotels. They aren’t luxury hotels and you have GA Tech in walking distance as well as the GA Dome close by. We need more reasonably priced hotels. Also, this will get rid of a parking lot!

  2. I am happy to be seeing construction starting back up again in ATL. It’s a good sign. And MG is correct..t will get rid of yet another ugly parking lot! Now the question is, will there be retail or restaurants on the bottom floor street level?

  3. That’ll be a lovely place to stay while grandma is getting embalmed next door. Seriously though, it’ll probably do quite well with Ga Tech across the freeway.

  4. Now looking at the location on the map. It won’t get any foot traffic since the front of the hotel faces Williams St. So I don’t think it would have any first floor shops, etc. But it will be a nice affordable option in Midtown.

  5. I agree with Chris. Great that it’s happening, but I hope there is some street level storefronts that add to the walkability of the area. All these people staying in Midtown will need stuff to do.

  6. Hopefully this will only be the beginning of a wave of development along the Spring St. corridor. I mentioned in the Midtown Mile post that I believe it’s time to consider converting West Peachtree and Spring Streets to two-way streets to enhance their walkability and viability as retail corridors.

The Chevron gas station at 10th and Spring needs to go. It’s not going to be a great impression for Hilton guests to look out their window at the shenanigans that go on at that gas station (and the Checkers too for that matter).

  7. This post is simply wrong. They have not started construction, and in fact don’t even have construction approval from the city, let alone design approval from the commission, nor have the transfer of development rights been approved by the city (although they have passed through NPU-E).

This hotel will probably be built, but to claim “work has begun” is false.
