Common Roots founder Brock Nix is a fifth generation produce operator with experience in corporate production, although his family ties are all local.

“It’s definitely in my blood,” Nix wrote in an email to What Now Atlanta, “My father (who passed away in 2019) encouraged me to leave my corporate role with US Foods several years ago so that I could come back into the family business. He is and will continue to be my inspiration for retail – he is a produce legend amongst that community.” Nix’s family currently operates two farmers markets, one in LaGrange, GA and one in Opelika, AL.

Common Roots is a market that aims to supply accessible, high-quality products to the entire Avondale Estates community. “We are big on inclusivity!  We will proudly be accepting all forms of payment, including snap and EBT,” Nix added. “I guess the best way to describe it is an upscale farmer’s market experience but without the upscale price and with a vibe that we hope where everyone will feel welcomed while they shop with their fellow neighbor.”

You’ll be able to find lots of local produce at Common Roots, as well as international and seasonal produce, from pumpkins and gourds in the fall to Christmas trees in winter to thousands of plants in the spring. The market will also offer a robust deli, plenty of local coffee, a substantial frozen section, and fresh cut flowers all year.

According to a press release, local businesses like 3Bros Cookies, Georgia Sourdough, Southbound BBQ, Honey Next Door, and Rock House Creamery, will have products available at Common Roots as well.

The goal is to have Common Roots up and running by late January or early February, depending on construction. “Overall we couldn’t be happier to soon began serving the Avondale Estates community and we can’t wait to show y’all around the market very soon!” says Nix.

Common Roots Market is located at 3409 Covington Hwy., Avondale Estates, GA 30032. It will be open Monday – Saturday from 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Visit Common Roots online to learn more.
