The discount retailer opened for the first time last week.

DGX is now looking to retail alcohol to its offerings and this week filed a liquor license application with the City of Atlanta to do so.

The DGX store is scaled down to roughly one-half the size of a traditional Dollar General which is typically between 7,300-9,000 square feet.

DGX Atlanta will feature an expanded health and beauty section, frozen and refrigerated food offerings, pet supplies, candies and snacks, paper products, home cleaning supplies and now, alcohol, according to a company statement.

The store will also feature home décor, electronics, and seasonal offerings, as well as a checkout lane geared toward a high-volume, fast-moving store for quick and easy checkout.

News of the proposed DGX did not land without criticism including a petition from Midtown residents over Hanover Midtown’s choice of tenant.

Chief among the complaints was DGX’s proximity to preexisting city format convenience stores like RaceTrac and the alleged uptick in panhandling along the corridor contributed to these types of businesses.

Neighboring the DGX will be Dunkin’ Donuts, which filed plans in February and is expected to open late-June, early-July 2020.

Now in its leasing phase, Hanover Midtown includes 350 apartment units, 11,000 square feet of retail and more than 35,000 square feet on floors two through four of the office part of the project has been set aside for co-working giant WeWork.

  1. I get why they petitioned it, they want the neighborhood to maintain a certain “vibe” for lack of a better word. Nothing wrong with that, however I am sure the residents of Hanover and all of the other surrounding communities will benefit from the convenience of the DGX store being where it is. They are surely set to make a fortune, and whoever chose the location for the store is a complete genius where I am concerned!

    Welcome to the neighborhood!!
