Jackmont Hospitality and its culinary director Chef Todd Richards for more than a year have been teasing plans to open a new barbecue concept in the former Anderson’s Old Fashioned Bar-B-Que space on Willis Mills Road in the southwest Atlanta neighborhood (SWATS) of Florida Heights.

Anderson’s, which had a nearly 45-year run, has been closed for roughly the last 15 years.
The new restaurant, tentatively called Anderson’s BBQ in homage to its predecessor, was originally targeting a late-2019 opening, Jackmont Hospitality CEO Daniel Halpern earlier this year posted in a Facebook Live message.
Now, recent permits filed with the City of Atlanta indicate that plans are moving forward, but well into 2020.
The most recent application calls for an “interior renovation” and “exterior smokehouse rehab” at the space with construction costs estimated at $500,000.
Jackmont Hospitality is the restaurant group behind several airport concessions and concepts like Chicken + Beer and One Flew South.
It is also the franchisee of more than 40 TGI Fridays restaurants.
In addition to teasing the opening of its first BBQ concept with Chef Todd, Halpern teased with AJC’s Food and Dining editor Ligaya Figueras an “out in the streets” brick and mortar for Ludacris’ Chicken + Beer.

I hope this BBQ place actually smells like BBQ when driving by unlike Greater Good. Who wants to eat a BBQ place that doesn’t smell like Smokey BBQ goodness?

I hope not. If I show up at a place called Lake and Oak I’m expecting over-priced tapas, not a mound of pulled pork.
