“This was a hard decision in many ways,” Doty said. “But I believe it is better to focus my energy right now.” YEAH! Right.

Shaun Doty announced today that he is closing his four-year-old Shaun’s Restaurant after dinner on Sunday, Dec. 18, according to a press release from Melissa Libby and Associates.

“Doty plans to concentrate his time on the Yeah! Burger restaurants he and partner Erik Maier have opened in Atlanta.”

Bill Addison with Atlanta Magazine broke the news (story here) moments ago, and says the restaurant was on its way to being named as “Best Brunch in our upcoming Best Of issue.”

Why would a restaurant that is so successful close? We don’t buy it, and neither should you. We don’t have any information beyond what was in the carefully worded press release suggesting that Doty needed to get his ducks in a row and focus his energy on his new franchise, YEAH! Burger, but profitable businesses aren’t abandoned!

Here’s the press release from local Atlanta PR Firm, Melissa Libby and Associates:

Oct. 20, 2010 – Shaun Doty announced today that he is closing his four-year-old Shaun’s Restaurant after dinner on Sunday, Dec. 18. Doty plans to concentrate his time on the Yeah! Burger restaurants he and partner Erik Maier have opened in Atlanta.

“This was a hard decision in many ways,” Doty said. “But I believe it is better to focus my energy right now.”

“Yeah! Burger really speaks to my passion at this point in my life,” said Doty, the father of two sons, 7 and 11 months. “I like that it’s a place I can take my family and feel good about eating there. It has taken all the principles of the food at Shaun’s – fresh, quality ingredients purchased from people I know – and made it affordable,” he added.

Shaun’s will remain open with regular hours until the closing date. Doty does not rule out starting another fine dining restaurant or re-opening in the future.

  1. I ate there a couple of times for their Sunday fixed price dinner and each time I felt like they were annoyed to serve me. Too bad because the food was OK and the restaurant was very cute looking inside.

  2. Terrible location for this type of upscale casual cuisine (which is good) and this PR firm isn’t doing much to fill seats either. The problem is that no one ever hears about them anymore. Meredith Ford was a better spokesperson for them and free.

  3. I called this in the comments section of this website at least six months ago. Shaun’s has been slipping for a while and the empty tables were everywhere on a recent Friday night dinner visit.

  4. Maybe he wants to revisit closing down Shaun’s, given the 1 star reaming that the AJC just gave Yeah burger.

  5. LET THE GUY LIVE HIS LIFE. Obviously, he’s a changed man who wants to spend more time with his young family without all the stress of having to live up to upscale hype. Maybe he wants to scale down & focus on what every American can bite: juicy, mouth watering hamburgers — what’s so wrong with that? The way you guys are all slamming Shaun, you woulda thought he gave your kids food poisoning.

Leave him be, support his new upstart, or finish snacking on the crumbs @your lonely dinner tables.
