After announcing earlier this year that Cakes and Ale would close, the Decatur restaurant and its adjacent cafe have hit the market.

The Shumacher Group holds the listing.

Cakes and Ale, at 155 Sycamore Street, closed for good after dinner service June 9 following a ten-year run.

Ahead of the closure Co-Owner Kristin Allin told Atlanta Magazine, “a new restaurant will fill the space, and we are excited to see our corner in Decatur continue to serve and entertain families and diners. Details coming!”

That doesn’t seem to be the current state of things.

Instead, the lease can be taken over, and the Cakes and Ale brand can be acquired with “key money at $225,000” which includes all furniture, fixtures, and equipment.

“Some owner financing” is available to a “qualified operator,” according to the listing.

Rent on the 5,000-square-foot restaurant and the adjacent 1,600-square-foot bakery is $7,600 per month.

It’s unclear what the remaining lease term is, but there’s an option to renew.

Steve Josovitz, the broker representing the seller, would not disclose the lease term when reached by What Now Atlanta Wednesday.
