Cactus House, the brainchild of Michael Pacca, one of the owners and founding partners of the Lips Restaurant chain along with Executive Chef Lilia Lourdes, a well-known chef and restaurant owner in Mexico City and her son Emilio Lourdes, an Atlanta resident and GA Tech alumni, will open in Midtown July 17.

The restaurant, at 1020 Piedmont Avenue NE in the Azure on the Park development, was originally slated to open “after July fourth weekend.”

Lilia Lourdes has been a chef and restaurant owner in Mexico for over 30 years bringing her years of experience cooking Mexican meats from family recipes that date back generations.

“Cactus House will craft its tacos with new and unique flavor profiles, creating what we feel will be exceptional tacos, and is looking to become a staple with Midtown residents, as well as those visiting Piedmont Park,” a company spokesperson Friday in an email told What Now Atlanta.

The interior of the space has a mural created by local artist Lee Arnett. The mural style is reflective of Mexican graffiti artists.

Cactus House will have a full liquor license and will feature craft frozen and draft margaritas, as well as Mexican beers and a house sangria.

“We are striving to cook and create natural and healthy Mexican food crafted with local and sustainable ingredients. At Cactus House we are bringing our passion for guest service and quality to the Atlanta restaurant scene. We are looking forward to Cactus House becoming a staple in the Atlanta dining community.”

  1. always check out new places and I heard this one was lacking, but gave it a try. We walked in to an empty restaurant in the early afternoon on a beautiful day. Every restaurant except this place was cowded. We walked in and ordered and paid and a 20% tip was added to our bill while we were told where the napkins were and told about the do it your self concept. ??? What is the tip for? When our drinks were ready my hands were full with waters and napkins, but the guy we ordered from put them at the end of the empty bar and told me I needed to take them to our table….again…why tip? Food came out and this is just hysterical….greasy chips, small bowl of salsa, and odd looking tiny bit of guac. The guy said ” we make everything in house.” We laughed so hard every Mex place in Midtown makes their gauc, salsa, and chips in-house. Don’t use that as a selling point to this awful restaurant. It’s not taco bell…not to mention you charged for the greasiest inedible chips even when we told the guy. His response was “sorry you feel that way.” ???? No refund on what was totally inedible???Sorry, but this place will not last. Oh and the cherry on the cake was one of the employees smoking in the outdoor dining area and screaming profanities to someone in the street. You might want to have him smoke at back. I won’t detail the dirty bathroom, but we will never be back.
