Bean-to bar chocolate maker to offer baked goods and craft ice cream at new location

Cacao Atlanta Chocolate Company will open their second boutique in Virginia-Highland, according to Caline Jarudi, chief operating officer for the chocolatier.

Replacing the now shuttered Juicy Green yogurt shop at 1064 N. Highland Avenue, Cacao is scheduled to open Aug. 1.

“[Virginia-Highland] is where we’ve wanted to be since the beginning,” Jarudi said. “There are very few places to walk around in Atlanta were you actually feel like there’s something to do.”

Pastries and baked goods will be made on-site at the Virginia-Highland boutique where patrons will have indoor and outdoor seating options.

“There will be a few small tables outside,” Jarudi said. “Whatever the city will allow.”

The new location will also carry High Road Craft Ice cream who uses Cacao chocolate in their products.

Cacao’s original Inman Park location will slowly transition to a “factory,” according to Jarudi, who told What Now Atlanta Tuesday that most of their chocolate products will be produced there to be sold at their Buckhead and Virginia-Highland boutiques.

“The Inman Park space will still carry a limited selection of our patron’s favorites,” Jarudi said.

What Now Atlanta spoke with Katie Douglass, sales associate at the neighboring Bella Cucina boutique, on a trip to the chocolate company’s new location and asked what she thought about them opening there.

“I don’t like to drop a lot of money on chocolate,” Douglass said.

Kira Thingpin, receptionist at the neighboring Nadine’s Triple Crown hair salon, told What Now Atlanta Tuesday she didn’t know Cacao was opening.

“Chocolate’s fine,” Thingpin said. “I think it’s neat and something different for the neighborhood.”

  1. I think the new Buckhead location is really nice. The owner did a great job and really thought the design through. Yes, the chocolate is very expensive, but it is understandable if you have read about their process and ingredients. The high road ice cream is delicious. Cacao is good for the Highlands in that it is a locally owner and operated niche concept.

  2. That is really fun. Nice to hear that something other than a frozen yogurt shop is expanding. We haven’t had a good place to go to for dessert since Matty Cakes and Chocolate Pink shut down. 🙁

  3. That’s a pretty hilariously hypocritical statement from the Bella Cucina rep considering their prices

  4. That’s unfortunate Douglass thinks as such. The whole reason we chose that space so we could be next door to Bella Cucina and eat artichoke pesto on crostini all day long!

  5. Wait.

Bella Cucina just insulted their future neighbor???

If Bella Cucina is open in a year, I will buy their whole business.

  6. as the owner of Bella Cucina, I am horrified to see this!
we love Cacao and kristen and so delighted that they will be our new neighbors.
    please accept my personal apology!!!
