It will re-open in January 2020, not as a traditional Burger 21, but with a brand new concept and name, KBBQ on Fire, according to a note posted on the doors and windows Monday, announcing the change.

“We’re currently closed, we’re sorry for the inconvenience,” according to the note.

“We’ll come back with new menu for Korean BBQ and Hamburgers in January 2020.”

What Now Atlanta initially received word of the upcoming change in early November, but owner Paul Kim, who currently owns two dental practices in Gwinnett County, and operated the Burger 21 under YKIM 21, LLC, declined to confirm the exact date of the pending transition.

The Alpharetta location was initially part of Burger 21’s plans to open additional restaurants in the metro Atlanta area, including places such as Kennesaw, Midtown, Buckhead, Cumberland and Norcross.

“Expansion in Atlanta continues to be a priority for Burger 21, and we are thrilled that both new and experienced foodservice operators are committed to partnering with us as we grow in the Southeast and across the U.S.,” said Dan Stone, vice president of franchise development of Front Burner Brands, management company for Burger 21 at the time.

The company opened its first franchise near the Mall of Georgia in 2013 and opened the Alpharetta location in 2018.

The Old Milton Parkway location is still listed on the corporate website as a Burger 21, one of four listed in Georgia.
