This Saloon is ‘Coming Soon Ya’ll!’

Rio Grande Cantina on Roswell road closed this past Wednesday, May 5 after the ten-year lease on the space had expired. Serving liquor without a license, Rio Grande got away scot-free as they’ve moved out making way for the newest addition to Buckhead Village, Buckhead Saloon.

With an estimated opening date of Thursday, July 22, Buckhead Saloon co-owners Todd Milner and Jeff Bolhous are wasting no time in bringing their once popular Saloon back to Buckhead.

Originally opened in 1995 just two blocks away from the Rio Grande space, Buckhead Saloon moved to Charlotte NC in 2005 upon closing.

“At the time, the Buckhead area nightlife business had decrease,” Bolhous said in explaining their closure back in 2005.

Buckhead Saloon will open as a sports bar tavern serving a full menu and will offer live entertainment at least three nights a week. General Manager, Steven Tecknyer, says the cuisine and atmosphere could be referred to as “upscale bar.” The menu is still in the works.

Milner explained the renovation process which will include a light remodel but will consist of opening up the dinning space and take it from its “diner feel” and give it more of a “rustic tavern type feel that is visually interesting.”

Buckhead Saloon will have several flat screens and projectors for sporting events and will morph into a high-energy nighttime hot spot pub.

“Buckhead village is experiencing a re-birth,” Bolhous said. “[Buckhead Village] is becoming a destination entertainment area of the southeast, similar to the way it was in the 90’s.”

  1. Sure would be nice for someone to come up with something DIFFERENT….this just described the exact same set up as the new”er” FADOS just down the street. Atlanta can only take so many more “upscale sports bars”. I am sure it will do well for a little while because the “buckhead crowd” can’t seem to think for themselves and follow anything that serves yager bombs, but a little originality would be fantastic.

  2. @Eric Maney: At least as a member of the “Buckhead Crowd” I know how to spell what I’m drinking.

    Looking forward to this opening.

  3. Hey Eric Maney,

ever hear the phrase, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”?

It’s a good business move and people LOVE it! They don’t want different. The harder you have to try to be different, the more you become someone who is not you. Figure out who you are, work out your daddy issues, and get on with your life. I bet you’ll be drinking at the saloon on July 23.

  4. Great it was nice and quiet in the neighborhood now i have to hear blasting music and obnoxious drunk retards during the weekends
