Former Hotel Palomar restaurant experiences identity crisis

Temporarily slated to reopen as R Restaurant and Lounge, Pacci Ristorante is now operating as Briza Restaurant & Rooftop Bar, What Now Atlanta learned Friday through a tweet from John Kessler.

“California chef Janine Falvo cooking transitional menu,” said Kessler.

Karen, an employee at the restaurant located in the former 21-story Hotel Palomar Atlanta Midtown, a boutique hotel at 866 West Peachtree street, confirms the restaurant’s branding changed as of Friday morning.

“We are going to be maintaining a similar concept to Pacci and AltroRex,” said Karen. “We should be coming up with something concrete in the next week or two.”

Karen would not disclose her last name or occupation at the hotel.

Marriott International was hired by the Thayer Lodging group earlier this year to replace Kimpton Hotels & Restaurant Group at the Hotel Palomar.

Marriott re-branded the property as a Renaissance Hotel Friday (story here).

  1. Interesting. I ate at Pacci for the first time a few weekends ago with my husband and in laws, and I thought it was delicious. The staff seemed a little dull (probably due to the impending doom of their jobs), but otherwise, it was a really pleasant experience. I enjoyed the fare and the atmosphere very much. So I’m actually pleased that, although things will be rebranded, it sounds like they will be maintaining the concept. Good call.

  2. Marriott has been terrible during this whole process and the Marriott Transition team is clueless. All of their decision have been wrong and it is very unlikely the food will be good. When you think of good cuisine..do you think of Marriott?!?! Stay away..far away from this place!

Palomar and Pacci will be missed!

  3. Mary Ellen sounds suspiciously like a former Pacci employee… Just sayin. Who else knows there was a ‘transition team’ or would have a vested interest in how horrible they have been. While Marriot is certainly a bit more conservative than the now departed Kimpton, the soon to arrive chef has a lot of promise. So, I say, don’t stay away. Give it a chance. It’s not as if there was a break to stop, reorganize, reconnect, the. Rropen. This transition literally occured over night. There are bound to be a few bumps along the way. And don’t forget that many of our Kimpton friends are still employed by Marriott, and providing the same level of Kimpton service we were used to, and still there to greet us with a smile.
