Bloomingdale’s, a high-end department store chain owned by Macy’s Inc., is closing its Perimeter Mall store in Dunwoody early Spring, according to the Atlanta Business Chronicle (ABC).

The department store chain has a second location in Buckhead at Lenox Square Mall, which will remain open, according to the ABC’s report.

Bloomingdale’s is closing its Perimeter store “as part of the company’s normal-course process to selectively prune underperforming locations,” it told the ABC Wednesday.

Macy’s will close five Macy’s stores and four Bloomingdale’s across the country, according to the ABC’s report.

A final clearance sale starts Jan. 8 and will run for about 10 weeks. For more details, read the rest of the ABC’s thoughtful report.

  1. Be careful on the sales. Stores often import seconds and returns from other stores for the going out of business sales rather than simply giving good deals on the inventory on hand.

  2. This is a great opportunity for Lord & Taylor to make a comeback in Atlanta. Their new ownership has really turned things around, and most of all, they’re in a bit of an expansion mode. They’re planning on opening a new store in (or near) White Plains, NY and opening more in South Florida (which would be a re-entry in that market). Their new ownership has taken great strides to bring the store back to its fashionable roots. They really do feel upscale again, and not as “Belk-ish” as they did when they left Atlanta. Just my opinion…

  3. why isn’t there a BARNEY’S NEW YORK in Atlanta. And not a coop, they should have closed the Bloomingdales in buckhead and put a BARNEY’S NEW YORK and kept the other one in sandy springs open.
