A Potential New Coffee Shop Will Open in Castleberry Hill’s Art District

Black Coffee has filed permits to open in a recently-renovated commercial space near Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

This post is an update of: First Look: 131 Walker Street

A business currently listed as “Black Coffee ATL” seems to have landed a home at 131 Walker St., which is the site of recent renovations and five commercial spaces totaling 5,036 square feet near Mercedes-Benz Stadium. While not much is known about Black Coffee ATL at this time, a permit application this week was filed with the City of Atlanta to buildout the coffee shop. The listed owner has yet to make a statement with What Now Atlanta.

However, according to the Black Coffee ATL official website, the idea of this new establishment is to celebrate Atlanta’s roots. “We need a meeting place,” the website states. “A place where residents new and old feel welcome and find a common ground. Black Coffee aims to be that meeting place.” It’ll be a place of culture, where artists, businessmen, and students a like can meet up, talk, and enjoy everyone’s favorite beverages.

Black Coffee ATL wants to celebrate art at the heart of Atlanta’s Castleberry Hill’s art district, within walking distance of the Atlanta University Center. Previously, we uncovered that Invest Atlanta awarded facade improvement grants with the sum total of $540,000 to H.J. Russell and Company for new renovations at 131 and 159 Walker Street. According to the leasing agreement, the renovations are wrapping up in 2020. It seems this new beverage shop could be one of the first tenants, as they’ve already secured a lease agreement.

The menu consists of coffee, tea, and juice, along with sandwiches and pastries. Stop by in the evening and you can sip some cocktails, such as the Georgia Tea and the Atlanta Iced Coffee.
