Taco joint takes
Sprouts Green Cafe space

Bad Dog Taqueria will open in Emory Village next to Starbucks and across from Doc Cheys, according to company spokeswoman Caren West. The restaurant is moving into the space at 1579 North Decatur road where Sprouts Green Cafe was located.

“We are looking at a soft opening in early April and a grand opening in late April or early May,” said West.

Co-owners Tracy R. Mitchell and Bardo Arroyave will operate Bad Dog alongside Chef Lis Hernandez, formerly of Osteria 893 and Stella Neighborhood Trattoria.

Taking 1700 square feet, the taqueria will feature a full bar (made from a salvaged tree from the tornadoes two years ago that ravaged Cabbage Town) and will offer indoor and outdoor seating.

For the interior think: white walls with black and white photography complimented with exposed brick walls and wood elements, according to West.

Food will be made fresh daily and sourced locally. The restaurant will also incorporate technology into the experience, allowing diners to order cocktails from their iPhones.

“Bad Dog has an iPhone application in the works,” said West.

The ordering system is similar to a Fellini’s or Taqueria del Sol– order at the counter and then a server brings it your table, according to West.

The menu will feature à la carte tacos for $2.99 and include the plantain encrusted fried chicken, Korean barbecue pork belly, crispy chick-pea, and Argentine steak tacos to name a few.
