In celebration of its debut, the community is invited to its opening celebration “A Taste of Common Roots” on Saturday, April 29 and Sunday, April 30 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. featuring samples from its many local partners.
“The market concept is based on featuring many Georgia-based products in one place with a focus on hand-selected, unique produce from local farms and from all over the world, while creating an uplifting shopping experience unlike any other,” according to the release. Shoppers will find farm-fresh produce, unique grab-n-go deli options, premium meats, seafood, artisan goods, frozen selections, craft beers, professionally-curated wines, kombucha on-tap, local coffee, outdoor seasonal plants, vibrant flowers and more from 30 Georgia-based food and consumer product suppliers.
The 12,000 square-foot market was built from the ground-up and features an outdoor area with seasonal plants, flowers and holiday selections like pumpkins in the fall and Fraser fir trees during the holidays. Customers can also bring their behaved, leashed dogs to the outdoor patio and enjoy a grab-n-go sandwich or a freshly brewed cup of coffee.
Common Roots is founded by fifth generation produce operator and Brookhaven resident, Brock Nix, who takes pride in his agricultural roots. He learned the operations, production and logistics of farming from his father.
“I was inspired to build my own farmers’ market from my biggest mentor — my father — who passed away a few years ago,” Nix said in the release. “I grew up helping him with his market in La Grange, Ga. The market still remains the ‘go to’ spot for fresh fruits and vegetables, groceries, plants, flowers and more. My dad always told his customers, ‘farm-fresh, year-round.’ I happily recall that memory and knew that it would one day become my own market tagline.”
Customers can enjoy themed events, tastings, recipe demonstrations, and more throughout the year at Common Roots Farmers Market. Nix has also dedicated certain weekdays as themed music days like ‘80’s Day’, ‘Old School Hip-Hop Day’, and more.
“A passionate team, a sense of community and locally-sourced products are the roots of a true neighborhood market,” said Nix. “Most importantly, we want our customers to leave here with smiles on their faces because they had fun shopping with us.”

The salon’s name is Akasa, not Asaka. This is their 3rd location in the metro area.
Philip, thank you for bringing this to my attention. We corrected the spelling with our regrets.
