The Health department officials assess the risk factors for foodborne illness and public health interventions during the Inspections. They observe the food preparation practices and employee behaviors at the establishment. According to the CDC, these are the factors most commonly reported as contributing factors in foodborne illness outbreaks.
Moreover, the inspectors look for good retail practices. They check for the preventive measures taken to control the introduction of pathogens, chemicals, and physical objects into the food.
The restaurants are allowed to resolve some of the violations on-site during the inspection. For the others, the inspectors allow a time frame within which the issues must be fixed.
