Health inspections were conducted at Restaurants across Gwinnett, Newton & Rockdale County on January 13 and 14. The inspectors observed the Jiang Nan Asian restaurant’s kitchen operation and noted several instances of grave violations of the food safety norms. Mishandling of food times, problems with how the food was stored with storage, and other issues concerning hygiene were noted by the inspectors.
A total of 47 restaurants were inspected by the health department of the counties. Among them, 12 restaurants were awarded the perfect score of 100. A total of 31 restaurants scored between 90 and 100, securing the A grade. The total number of restaurants that scored between 80 and 89 and secured the B grade was 13. Receiving the C grade after scoring between 70-79 were 2 restaurants.

Jiang Nan Asian Restaurant located at 2180 Pleasant Hill Rd, Suite C failed the Health inspection and was given a score of 49 which resulted in it being given the grade “U”. Among the many issues noted, some posed severe risks of food-borne illnesses. Notably, the restaurant had secured a perfect score of 100 in the last inspection conducted on October 29, 2024.
One of the major issues that was cited in the report was how the food was stored in the restaurant. Raw chicken stored over ready-to-eat cabbage and raw egg stored above ready-to-eat tofu. Uncovered ready-to-eat ducks were seen in the walk-in cooler. Multiple duck and crab meat fillings were seen to be stored above the required temperature. The inspectors also saw working containers of spices and sauces without labels. These are some of the issues concerning the storage practices at the restaurant, as per the report.

Other issues at the restaurant, as per the report, included how employees touched their faces and hair while handling the food. The employees were seen to be wearing watches while in the kitchen and drinking from unapproved containers. Soap was missing from the employee restroom.
According to the report, the person in charge of the restaurant was unable to produce the signed agreements for any employees at the site. Additionally, the report mentioned that they lacked knowledge of several aspects of employee health and other vital information.
The report stated that necessary corrective actions were taken for several of the issues listed, which included providing necessary training to the PIC and making the employees take the necessary corrective actions. As for the food, they were discarded and correctly stored, as applicable to the particular case.
Issues at the restaurant that were not corrected during the inspection are to be rectified by January 24. If the corrective actions are not taken, the restaurant will face suspension of its permit. Further, the department will conduct a follow-up inspection on or before January 24. A Required Additional Routine inspection will also be conducted before January 24, 2026.
Most restaurants in the county demonstrated satisfactory adherence to the standards set by the health department. However, the one restaurant that failed to do so has been charged with grave violations. The restaurant will have to rectify the issues and consistently adhere to the food safety protocols to be allowed to operate in the future.
