No Car. No Service. At The Fat Factory On Ponce.

We don’t normally write about stuff like this, but we were so incensed by the treatment we received from Krispy Kreme’s iconic 24 hour fresh doughnut pit-stop on Ponce de Leon avenue that we had no choice.

Here’s the skinny: we walked up to the store after midnight when they were only serving through the drive-thru. In the middle of ordering our doughnuts, the person with the headset taking orders refused to serve us. Why? Simply because we were not in a gas guzzling king kong, carbon foot-printed SUV.

Speechless (and drooling over the lost hope of this misfortune) we refused not to be served, and appealed to the man’s higher angels (after all, who could be so cruel as to deny anyone a hot, freshly baked, glazed doughnut after midnight?).

“Company policy,” the man behind the microphone said, “we don’t serve anybody who isn’t in a car.”

Last night, we walked everywhere we went as part of our green campaign to reduce our carbon footprint. Krispy Kreme literally punished us for making Atlanta just a little less polluted.

  1. I found this out from them years ago, but now i understand.
    It’s a security issue I think.
I imagine they had previous issues with criminals running up to the window to rob them.

  2. this is VERY common with QSR’s with drive through- it’s a safety and security issue- their liability and risk is just too darn high to accept walk up customers- i’m sure they would have served you if you were in you your non gas guzzling auto-

  3. It is not a security issue, it is a liability issue. What if you were standing in the drive through line waiting for your doughnuts, and a car pulls up and hits you. Krispy would be liable. You can’t walk down the middle of a highway, right? Are you going to argue the DOT is not environmentally friendly? No, it is for your safety.

  4. Well, this happened to me as well ! At Burger King ! They also wont take orders if you walk in and are not in a car. If you want to get some order through their drive-in, you need to be in a car. Yeah, I also guessed its an liability issue.
