Anthropologie to Open 9,000 Square-Foot Store at Westside Urban Market

Westside Urban Market, located in west midtown in the White Westside Provisions District (per comment below), announced today that it has signed a lease with the American clothing store Anthropologie for a 9,000-square-foot store.

Set to open in spring of 2011 on the east side of Howell Mill Road, Anthropologie is known for modern, creative collections of designer name brands of women’s apparel, accessories, handcrafted furniture and home decor.

As the second national retailer to enter the Westside landscape, Anthropologie joins Room & Board, a national modern furniture brand that serves as the anchor tenant at White Provision, the adjoining community of showrooms, boutiques, restaurants, businesses and residences.

Linked by an urban pedestrian footbridge over the active Norfolk Southern railway, Westside Urban Market and White Provision continue to grow, forming the joint Westside Provisions District (WSPD) and emerging as a multi-dimensional, vibrant Atlanta neighborhood that is thriving despite macroeconomic trends.

Anthropologie is a significant addition, not only as a reflection of WSPD’s integrated approach to complementary national, regional and local retailers, but also as continued momentum for the community as it reaches the 10-year anniversary of its first tenants, Bacchanalia, Bungalow, G. Gilbert, Star Provisions and Taqueria del Sol.

Said Michael Phillips, managing partner of Westside Urban Market and creative director of Jamestown Properties, “we are excited to enter the next decade of Westside development with a national partner that will complement our unique community of boutique retailers and restaurants.”

Has the westside finally arrived with the addition of a second national retailer? Is there enough restaurants and retail outlets to support Anthropologie?

  1. Thanks for this great news, WNA! Interesting that they were successful in landing the same sort of retailer that the Midtown Mile was created to court, having so far been unsuccessful.

  2. There is no such thing as the “Midtown Mile” it is a plan or vision. For it to become a reality, there has be enough critical mass of retail for it to become a draw for other retailers, something that the Westside already has achieved. Its going to be a very difficult task in this economy but the fact that national retailers continue to show interest in intown Atlanta (other than Butthead) suggests that it will happen …. eventually.

  3. Thanks so much for the article! Just one quick correction, we are the “Westside Provisions District,” not the White Provisions District. It’s all very confusing with so many Whites and Wests and Provisions to juggle.

    The deal is, Westside Urban Market opened up about 10 years ago with Bacchanalia and several other pioneering tenants. When Jamestown Properties purchased the old White Provision building several years later, we forged a partnership with them and decided to brand ourselves as “Westside Provisions Distrct.”

    Hope that clears up any confusion!

  5. Anthropologie has opened. Was there last weekend. Great addition to that neighborhood! Even though I walked over there from 8th and Peachtree, it is easy to see how ‘obvious’ parking helps businesses thrive. Not so much back on Peachtree where people driving in to town have no idea where to park.
