Caribou Coffee is planned for 1720 Walton Way, according to construction documents. The site is currently home to a Checkers restaurant.
Some Caribou Coffee stores have indoor seating, but this new one proposed for Augusta is expected to be drive-thru only. It would be 826 square feet, according to the construction plans.
Founded in Minnesota in 1992, there are now more than 800 Caribou Coffee locations nationwide. There are nine locations in Georgia, including two at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
According to the company, Caribou Coffee has made significant expansion recently in both new and existing markets, opening locations in Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, Michigan, Ohio, Iowa, North Dakota, Wisconsin and Minnesota in the last year. They are also expecting more international development.
The Caribou Coffee menu includes hot and iced espresso beverages, tea, energy drinks, and food items like breakfast and lunch sandwiches, bagels and pastries.
The chain might have some coffee competition when the new Augusta location comes to fruition; there’s a Dunkin down the street.
