'We're in two pretty old buildings so there's always fun stuff you find when you start cutting those open.'

Ammazza will soon debut its new Decatur location and shortly after reopen its original Old Fourth Ward outpost on Edgewood.

Hugh Connerty and the Ammazza team have started teasing the opening and reopening on the restaurant’s Facebook pages but continue to hit unexpected delays.

“We’re super close to finishing Decatur but we still have a lot of things to do on our punch list,” Connerty Friday told What Now Atlanta in a telephone interview.

“We were supposed to have our [Certificate of Occupancy] today, but now we’re at least a month out. Old buildings always have surprises.”

The latest surprise?

Drains that need ripping up and replacing, Connerty said.

Decatur’s new grand opening timeline is early-September, but that could change.

Subcontractors are expected at the restaurant next week to wrap up the drain issues, he said.

“When we have an exact date, we’ll put it out there.”

The Old Fourth Ward Ammazza could reopen the first week of December assuming Connerty and his team get through permitting with the City of Atlanta on schedule.

The restaurant had to close its doors mid-2017 after a car wrecked the building.

“We’re pushing hard to get both locations open this year.”
