Chef Jared Alden Hucks later this year will open The Alden in Chamblee’s Parkview on Peachtree mixed-use development, according to a press release Tuesday.

Hucks, the founder of local supper club Dogwood Table, in an email Tuesday to What Now Atlanta specified an April debut for The Alden.

“After two decades of cooking in great restaurants here in the states and abroad, I’ve returned to serve my hometown community,” Hucks said.

“I’m really thinking of our guests and catering to them.”

The Alden (which means “old friend” in Old English and is also the chef’s middle name, is a nod to the “convivial atmosphere” he’s creating with the help of architect Andrew Amor) will serve seasonal American cuisine “that involves a modern twist on Southern classics and other culturally influenced mainstays.”

The Alden’s façade is reminiscent of old English architecture and is comprised of natural materials like limestone found nearby in Georgia.

The 2,300-square-foot space features 74 seats total, including the main dining room, bar, chef’s counter (with 11 seats) and outdoor patio.

A mezzanine level makes use of the restaurant’s 20-foot ceilings to allow for dry storage and an employee area.

The open kitchen, designed by Larry Aber of Atlanta Fixture & Sales Co., serves as the focal point of the space and is surrounded by a color palette of earth tones and earth elements.

Glass blower Rob Stern, who is also Hucks’ brother, has created lighting and art installations for the restaurant’s interior.

“We put a good deal of thought into the psychology of color. The materials and overall colors of the restaurant work together in harmony and are easy on the eyes.”

The chef/owner was very hands on throughout the design process and highly involved in the flow of the space, particularly the custom-designed Garland kitchen suite.

“I want our diners to feel at home. This is a relaxed environment with friendly service and great food where our guests can dine in comfort.”
