A film festival happening in Atlanta this March will be putting the spotlight on new African Cinema. The 4th edition of the African Film Festival Atlanta will take place from March 13 to 17. The theme for this year’s festival will be “African Voices, Global Stage: The Nollywood Influence.”

World-class films by African and global filmmakers will be screened at the film festival. Must-watch works that bring compelling stories to life by critically acclaimed performers, exceptional directors, skilled cinematographers, and other talented artists will be presented to the audience at the festival. Thought-provoking documentaries shall also be showcased at the festival.
“Mojisola” by Kenneth Gyang, Centerpiece feature “The Man Died” an “Ebrohimie Road: A Museum of Memory” will be featured at the festival. Documentaries like “Le cinéma de Marie-Josèphe”, “Price of Hope” and “Ichi: Marks in Time” will also be screened at the festival. Interactive workshops and discussions, Masterclasses and Networking sessions will also be part of the festival. Guests will also be welcome to Jollof “N” Chill, a Nigerian themed cocktail reception which will have personalities from Nollywood that include popular YouTube creators, Nigerian influencers and others.
AFFATL considers it its goal to transform the Africa continent’s image to the world by showcasing films that can change the narrative about the descendants of Africa. It wants to become a part of the conversation as well as provide action-driven input for this cause.
The African Film Festival Atlanta has partnered with the Nollywood Travel Film Festival to present this year’s AFFATL. Their collaboration is considered a step forward in showcasing African cinema, storytelling, and culture to the world.
The festival director is Ms Mojisola Sonoiki, who has more than 20 years of experience as a curator, juror, programmer and guest speaker for various Film Festivals and cultural events throughout the world.
Venues, Timings and Tickets
AFFATL will happen across two venues and five days in Atlanta. The full schedule for the various screenings and events at the festival is available.
The Auburn Avenue Research Library on African American Culture & History will be the venue for March 13 and 14. All screenings will be free and open to the public at this venue.
The Cinefest Film Theatre at Georgia State University will be the venue for March 15, 16, and 17. The ticket prices per screening at this venue will vary between $15 and $20. Tickets are available to purchase online.
