Abattoir, the “Southern Chophouse” which opened in the Westside Provisions District seven years ago, will shutter after dinner service on March 28, the restaurant in a press release announced Wednesday.

“We have loved our seven year run with our great team at Abattoir. We have been proud to present great food, a fabulous atmosphere and the talents of several notable chefs,” Anne Quatrano, Abattoir’s owner/operator, said in the release.

“It’s time we let another concept take over this awesome space as we work on the opening of our Fish Camp at Ponce City Market this Spring.”

Ford Fry will takeover the space, according to Eater. What Fry will open hasn’t been confirmed but the new concept will be the chef’s third Westside restaurant (Fry owns and operates JCT. Kitchen & Bar and The Optimist), and his eighth in total.

Quatrano is a James Beard Award-winning chef/restaurateur behind Star Provisions, Bacchanalia, Floataway Cafe, and the soon-to-open Fish Camp.

  1. Abattoir was an interesting and bold concept, just not for everyone. I wish Anne would focus more on keeping Bacchanalia in top form. It has slowly started to lose its appeal over the past few years, gotten a little stale. There was a time when I would have considered it one of the best restaurants in the world not just the US, but the place is showing chinks in its armor. The prix fixe concept is still the way to go, but the last two times I ate there the food was just very good instead of sublime, surprising, and delightful. IF she doesn’t watch out Bilbouquet will take over as the city’s premiere restaurant.

    1. Jim, thanks for the note. Not every story. Just the ones that will require more information to close them out…in this case, we’ll post an update once we learn more about Fry’s undisclosed concept. ~ Caleb

  2. Does anybody else besides Ford Fry take over restaurants in this city?

My God, I like his concepts to an extent but it is getting to be a little much. I will freely admit I think Fry overprices his food. Big time.
