Quick service dim sum restaurant submits application for a building permit.

UPDATE (July 3, 2013): Confirmed! Westside’s Yum Bunz opening July 8

Yum Bunz is finally making progress toward opening its first location.

The quick service dim sum restaurant submitted an application for a building permit with City of Atlanta Tuesday. The Yum Bunz concept was first revealed more than a year ago.

Construction on the new 3,400-square-foot space, at 935 Marietta Street, will cost an estimated $300,000, according to the permit.

Mike Blum, creator of The Real Chow Baby restaurants, is opening the dim sum restaurant that will specialize in bao, fluffy Chinese buns stuffed with barbecued roast pork and other fillings.

“I am thrilled to have Guy Wong of Miso as my partner on this venture,” Blum said in an email to What Now Atlanta Thursday. “It took a long time for Yum Bunz to come alive mainly due to the special equipment we had to source out to make the Bao.”

Yum Bunz is pushing for a mid-October opening, according to Blum.

  1. Why is ATL the dumping ground for things trendy but dine elsewhere years ago? Why doesnt Atl ever start a food trend?

  2. With the quality of food over at Miso, I have high hopes for this spot in the Westside. Looking forward to when 935M is filled in with retail. It’s one of Atlanta’s best designed buildings as far as street treatment is concerned.
