Atlantans awaiting the opening of Taco Diner and Fig Jam (relocating from Buckhead) in Midtown’s 77 12th Street apartments at the 12th & Midtown development are going to be disappointed.

Shirley Gouffon, senior vice president for Selig Enterprises Inc., who handles retail leasing at 12th & Midtown, told the Atlanta Business Chronicle (ABC) Thursday both concepts will no longer open at the project despite earlier announcements.

Instead, Dallas-based restaurant Princi Italia will open at the building taking the corner spot at the intersection of Crescent Avenue and 12th Street that was first announced to open as Taco Diner (the Mexico City-style taqueria was already knee-deep in the permitting process.)

According to the ABC, Princi is under the same ownership as STEEL Restaurant & Lounge located up the street from the planned pizza and pasta restaurant.

As for the Fig Jam space, Gouffon said the lease was terminated, and its replacement will be announced in 60 days.

  1. What is it with Selig and Dallas, TX? Half of the businesses at 12th and Midtown are based in Dallas. Italian rarely succeeds in Midtown.

  2. Yeah, for some reason Italian just doesnt work in Midtown except for that tiny place in the old house that I cant remember off the top of my head haha. We need a good BBQ joint. Just tried Smokebelly in Buckhead and holy damn it was good… too bad it’s in Buckhead haha
