Atlanta’s largest abandoned building, City Hall East on Ponce de Leon Avenue, was formerly Sears, Roebuck & Co. Southern Regional Catalog Distribution Center and is nearly 2 million square feet in size; and that doesn’t include parking decks and other structures, according to Scott Henry with Creative Loafing.

Private developers are in negotiation for purchasing the old warehouse which has tasked the city with emptying the building of several decades’ worth of old chairs, filing cabinets, office furniture, fixtures, appliances and other miscellaneous items (“assorted crap” as Henry calls it).

The basement doors of the 2 million-square-foot former Sears regional distribution center will open to the public starting Monday, Aug. 23, and ending the following Saturday, Aug. 28. Shoppers will be able to roam through a warehouse-sized area filled with “assorted crap” to purchase whatever tickles their fancy. Currently, there isn’t any information on pricing.
