An owner of property in Southwest Atlanta‘s Campbellton Road neighborhood has plans for a five-story, 200-unit mixed-use apartment project, according to a new permit application filed with the city of Atlanta this week.
The owner of the project site is shown as Wisal Babar, with the permit applicant listed as Craig Michael Dupuis, a senior architect with Prime Engineering.
Just southwest of the intersection of Campbellton Road and Delowe Drive, the development would rise at 2170 Campbellton Road, replacing a pair of single-story commercial buildings that includes a tire shop.
Plans call for five levels of apartments over one level of about 13,000 square feet of retail fronting Campbellton Road. Named Campbellton Apartments in application documents, the project would hold 66 one-bedrooms, 113 two-bedrooms, and 21 three-bedrooms.
Its design includes 183 parking spaces in a two-level garage surrounded by the building’s residential units, as well as space for 23 bicycles.
Vehicular access would be given both from Campbellton Road and Delowe Drive, site plans show.

They are very ugly and not needed on Campbelton Road. There are enough apartments going up in this city. Every where you look there are apartments going up. They say that a number of these companies are owned by Chinese builders. Our city is overwhelmingly to crowded and with the government allowing more companies to take up every little space, it gives you that choking feeling. I pray that this project gets blocked!!!! We don’t need any project’s, been there and done that. People need decent living. facilities not being stacked on top of one another.
I agree the design shows no concern for the original character of the community. But the Campbellton Road district is quickly declining. Even Greenbriar is dying. I lived there for years & still have relatives I visit there. Should we build 200 living units with retail & businesses or build a minimal number of subsidized small houses on that smaller tract of land? What will that do for the area? No, we don’t want “projects”. but check out Alison Courts area. How many times should they be renovated? Thank you to the homeowners who have kept their properties up. But others have been left to decay. No one wants to move in or buy the degraded properties, not even to flip them.
