General Growth Properties (GGP), owner of the Dunwoody Mall, announced in a press release Thursday, Von Maur department store will take the soon-to-be vacant Bloomingdale’s space. It was just Wednesday that Bloomingdale’s notified its 128 employees that it would be closing there.

This will be the second Von Maur in the area. The other is in Alpharetta at North Point Mall (opened late 2011).

“Von Maur combines exceptional customer service with brand-name and high-quality merchandise in an aesthetically pleasing environment to create a shopping experience like no other,” said Richard Pesin, executive vice president of anchors and development for General Growth Properties, Inc.

“Adding Von Maur to the retail line-up of Perimeter Mall further solidifies Perimeter Mall as a premier shopping destination for all of Atlanta.”

Von Maur will join Apple, Nordstrom, Michael Kors, Sur La Table, and Forever 21 among others at Perimeter Mall and is projected to open in fall 2012.

  1. Well, while I was hoping that this would be a great comeback opportunity for Lord & Taylor, Von Maur would be a worthy replacement as well. Just glad that it’s not another Belk.

  2. Surprised that they’d locate so close to their first location. Though without space in the Buckhead malls I guess this is the closest they could get.

  3. I don’t see how it’s any different from Nordstrom having a location at Phipps and Perimeter??? Bloomingdales is more expensive and trendier then Von Maur, so 1 location may be all Atlanta can support. Von Maur should do fine.

  4. I visited the new Von Maur store at Northpointe. It is very similar to Nordstrom’s but also has lower priced lines like Belk’s. It’s like half Nordstrom’s and half Belk’s merchandise. I am not complaining but just giving my observation. Von Maur is a nice store.

  5. I went to the North Point location and the interior decor (carpet color, etc,) just looks hideous to me. However, the merchandise is decent.

  6. This really is a shame. Von Maur is such a downgrade. Terrible clothing lines and the cosmetics department is horrible! Von Maur apparently thinks Atlantans have bad taste and don’t know fashion. What we really need is Bergdorfs or a full line Barney’s. Von Maur wouldn’t know upscale if it slapped them.

  7. Bergdorf’s in Atlanta?? REALLY?? Get a GRIP !!!
Atlanta couldn’t even handle TWO upscale bloomingdale’s,
therefore, Atlanta will NEVER be able to swallow a full-line expensive store like a
    Bergdorf’s or Barneys NY !!!!
Bergdorf’s & Barneys AREN’T coming to Atlanta just so snotty-stuck-up dreamers can “Drool” against their display windows !!! They’re businesses that expect “Bottom-Line-RESULTS” with plenty of FULL-PRICED Transactions !!!

  8. @ Nina Griscolle: Bergdorf’s is owned by Neimain Marcus Group, so essentially we have Bergdorf’s here in some capacity. I don’t even know that there is a Bergdorf’s outside of the NYC area? The Neimans store at Lenox and the Saks at Phipps are among those company’s highest volume stores, so there is definitely potential here, but not outside of the core retail area within the Lenox/Phipps area. Also, Barney’s NY has expressed interest in opening a full line anchor store in Atlanta. But, following the logic above, I don’t think it would be outside of the Lenox/Phipps area. The space that will soon be vacated by Crate & Barrel would be a good contender, but I hear that Apple plans to construct a multilevel glass cube flagship store in that space, hence the earlier posting on this site concerning the demolition of the porte cochiere at the main entrance.

  9. I like that Von Maur is opening at Perimeter mall. It has better service than Nordstrom but isn’t as expensive. I’ve shopped their store in Kansas City and you can certainly buy higher priced stuff there but they really do have very affordable prices. Much better than Nordstrom. I’m also glad to have another store for adults and not just for kids.
