Richard Blais’ hot dog restaurant to open in June

UPDATE (Sept. 14): What Now Atlanta received word Wednesday that Blais’ new Poncey-Highland concept, now called HD1, will open Sept. 22.

Blais has once again teamed up with Barry Mills, co-owner of Flip Burger Boutique, this time to serve up hot dogs.

Called HD, Mills and Blais’ newest concept will tentatively open June 30 dependent on construction, according to sources close to the project.

Taking the now shuttered San Francisco Coffee location in Poncey-Highland on North Highland Avenue (San Fransisco Coffee relocated), construction on the build-out began earlier this week.

Blais’ representation was not able to comment on the progress of the new restaurant but Atlanta Magazine did score an interview with chef Blais in March discussing menu.

“All I can tell you is that it’s not going to be a hot dog version of Flip,” Blais said in the report. “There’s going to be hot dogs and foods you want to eat every day.”

Those sources that confirmed the construction time line and restaurant name, told What Now Atlanta that menu items will include, “hot dogs, sausages, beer and wieners.”

On a trip to the restaurant Sunday, What Now Atlanta asked Ede Wright, an employee at the neighboring Boutique Guitar Exchange, what he hoped would have opened in the now shuttered coffee shop.

“A jazz club,” Wright said.
