Sixties-style piano bar takes center stage on the corner of 5th & Juniper Streets.
UPDATE (Nov. 22, 2011): Did Murphy’s Restaurant force Midtown’s piano bar into last minute name change?
Murphy’s Den Restaurant & Lounge is opening in Midtown.
It will replace the now shuttered Avra Greek Tavern (which closed in early 2010), according to a spokeswoman for Gene Kansas Commercial Real Estate, who represented the landlord in this transaction.
“Expect a neighborhood joint with great food, friendly atmosphere and a piano guy,” the spokeswoman said in an email to What Now Atlanta Tuesday. “Bringing back a little of the nostalgia of a sixties piano bar with the gathering camaraderie of an Irish pub.”
Murphy’s Den will be located at 794 Juniper Street across the street from Ludacris’ Straits restaurant and near Hankook Taqueria’s soon-to-open Midtown concept.
No official word on when Murphy’s Den will open.

Doesn’t sound like something I’ll frequent but glad to see the place being occupied nonetheless.
Down the street from Murphy’s? Don’t you think they should have at least tried to get a substantially different name.
SWEEET. Piano bars are awesome. This will do well
I hope they got it for free!
Great addition to the Hood. Maybe some of us McCray’s refugees will finally find a home.
