The Marriott-managed Renaissance Midtown Atlanta Hotel is shuttering its in-house restaurant Briza to make way for a new concept (Briza first replaced Pacci Ristorante when Hotel Palomar was purchased by Thayer Lodging Group and re-branded into the Renaissance brand.)

The hotel submitted a building permit application to City of Atlanta Thursday to convert the property’s main restaurant Briza into a new concept.

The hotel is in the process of creating the name and menu for the new concept, Zach Curry, Renaissance’s general manager overseeing the hotel, and food and beverage operation, told What Now Atlanta (WNA) in a telephone interview Friday afternoon.

“It’s high-time for Briza to step up to the plate,” Curry said. “We want to be able to compete at a high level. Briza has served its time.”

Although the design of the future restaurant’s space has been decided, the Renaissance is still “30 to 45 days out” from creating key elements like a name and menu, according to Curry.

“This has been a fast and furious process we’re going through. The hotel has been here for five years now, so it’s time. Restaurants five years ago are going in a different direction.”

An estimated $290,500 will be spent in commercial alterations, according to the application.

The hotel’s rooftop lounge, Rooftop 866, will remain as is.

  1. How about a restaurant that doesn’t charge hotel prices just because they’re in a hotel. Never understood that – mediocre food at high prices when I can walk a block and get great food at decent prices!

  2. Finally! The food at Briza is sub par. What they need to do us make sure that the food is good. Change the name and concept all you want. If the food sucks, it doesn’t matter. Rooftop 866 needs a menu overhaul too. They need better food too.
