Atlantans now have one less Italian dining option in Midtown.

La Tagliatella shuttered its doors on the corner of Peachtree and 8th Streets for good Saturday, according to a manager at the Emory Point location.

The Italian restaurant replaced Silk mid-2012 at the Shops at Metropolis.

As of Sunday, the restaurant’s Facebook page has been deleted and its phone disconnected.

What will replace the 5,200-square-foot restaurant has not been confirmed at this time.

Developing….

  1. This space needs to snag a trendy new venture from Atlanta’s rock star chefs, not another national chain of mediocre quality.

  2. Midtown continues to be a very fickle place to open a restaurant. All the pieces are here – diverse neighborhood, large university, offices, hotels, condo towers. Yet, weekday evening foot traffic is light and some places never have many customers. More neighborhood oriented stuff may help, but even a decent burger joint like Five Guys is rarely full. The new massive parking garage right around the corner at Juniper and 7th was also a step backward. Why is it that the few nights it snows, everyone in midtown is out and every restaurant is packed all night? Suggests that the folks are around but maybe they go elsewhere most nights?

  3. I wish their contract/lease had a clause that said they would be responsible for tearing out their build-out if they ever went under. What an eyesore.

  4. I love Midtown – the restaurants, retail, density, etc. Having dined at this restaurant before I can tell you that the food was not good at all. Other friends have commented the same. The menu looks extensive but, isn’t. Five guys – convenient take-out for those who enjoy a gut-bomb every now and then. If you look at Taco Mac, Hudson Grill (overflow from taco Mac), Ecco, Baraonda – these places are often busy. Midtown has everything to help a good restaurant with an enjoyable menu thrive. But, bad food loses favor after everyone has tried it once or twice.

  5. SSS, I generally agree (though Hudson Grille draws it’s own customers, including me, not just TM overflow). But, how about other decent Midtown places that rarely are full… Mulan, Avra/whatever it is now, Señor Patron, Barrelhouse, Gordon Biersch, Vinnys, Lawrence…? I hope Novare can attract some top talent to its new parking deck retail spaces, considering it’s, well, in a parking deck.

  6. I notice that it’s the faster, cheaper places that stick around in Midtown. Five Guys doesn’t do a lot of dine in business, but there’s a steady stream of takeout customers. Cafe Agora down the street is amazing, and f2o always seems to have a healthy crowd. I’ll be surprised if the Sweet Hut doesn’t do a killer business. Basically– places that do a big takeout business seem to have staying power. More expensive sit down places, however…they’re not places residents go regularly (who can afford $30 pasta every week?), and I don’t think Midtown is really a dining destination for people who live in other parts of Atlanta. Why drive all the way down here from, say, Buckhead, when there’re plenty of decent sit down restaurants there?

I loved the build out, personally, but I hope it doesn’t sit uselessly for ages again. Maybe they’ll consider splitting it up, since size might be prohibitive for some restaurants. Hopefully something local…

  7. Midtown restaurants need more than midtown residents to survive. We moved from Midtown to Druid Hills and come back to midtown quite often for the following: Ecco, South City Kitchen, Lure, and Empire State South… all doing just fine. And, all have excellent parking.

  8. Most of the food was barely average and the management/service was terrible. The last time I ate there I asked a question about their 4 standard sauces (Balsamico di Modena,Quattro Formaggi al Tartufo,Pepe Verde,Reggio Emilia) and the waiter had no idea what any of them were like.

    1. This does not come as a surprise. As others have said, it wasn’t very good. We ate there only once. The menu wasn’t exciting and the food was not good at all.

  9. The only surprise about this place closing is that it didn’t happen months ago. Totally agree with PK. If I wanted meh Italian food I’d go to Olive Garden or open a jar of Ragu sauce at home. Either way, at least the service would have been a lot better.
