Owner confirms closing is imminent if property doesn’t sell by years end

UPDATE (Dec. 11): Toulouse Restaurant to close Dec. 31

Toulouse Restaurant in Buckhead will probably close by the end of the year.

Owner George Tice said the restaurant, located at 2293 Peachtree Road, is for sale.

Several interested parties have expressed intent to purchase and an offer is on the table, according to Tice who adds that a deadline has been set for the first of the year to sell before pulling the plug.

“Come January, I’ll have to make a major decision.”

Tice also owns Portofino restaurant located at 3199 Paces Ferry Place.

  1. Not surprised at all. The space had not been updated in quite some time, if at all. I last went when they offered a deeply discounted meal for their anniversary week, and there were still only a few tables occupied.
Too bad–I’ve also been to a couple of their monthly wine tastings, which are fun and informative.

  2. I’ll be very interested in hearing more about this as it develops. My wife has a distinct opinion on Toulouse.

  3. Can’t believe they made it this long. The place is a mess, the food, meh. I was in on a weeknight and their wood-burning grill was inoperative, the server telling they only use it on weekends, when it’s “busy”. I ordered Duck Confit and got chicken thighs. Really, chicken thighs…

  4. It was decent when it FIRST opened. After years of “who gives a shit they won’t know the difference” attitude, this place has become an inside joke in the industry. The food is as French as Bojangles. Wait, that’s an insult to Bojangles.

  5. Toulouse is not meant to be a French restaurant. It is an American Bistro with a French accent (the sauces). It’s never claimed to be a French restaurant. Although, you’re opinion doesn’t mean much if you’re eating at Bojangles.

Perhaps the most significant joy of owning a restaurant is the nice
people you meet, and frequently see.

At Toulouse, that will end this month. For the last four years, each
year I told myself that the economy was going to turn, and with that
thought, I kept Toulouse open for another year. This year, regrettably,
I’ve reversed my opinion on the economy improving, and will close
    Toulouse on 12.31.10.

I’ve enjoyed tremendously meeting you, and having you dine in my
restaurant for the past 16 years. Some of you I have become good
friends with, and I would like that to continue. I will remain active
with my other restaurant, Portofino, and, although I have seen many
of you dining there for lunch, starting with 2011, I’ll be spending some
evenings there, and will look forward to seeing you, and tasting some
    wine together.

For those of you who haven’t tried Portofino, we celebrated our 10th
birthday, 12.1.10. Our menu is American/Italian, as is our wine list, and
I’m sure you will enjoy it as much as you have Toulouse.

Enjoy the holidays. As the new year begins, I hope to find that I was in
error regarding the economy, and that all of you experience an exciting
    and fulfilling 2011.

  7. George tice is a tool…thinks he knows about food and wine..he does not! If he did..he would still be in business. He is a pompous, power hungry idiot. He stole toulouse from investors when it first opened. So be sure to spit on him if you see him…I will. Drunk old man anyway.
