The Mexican restaurant submitted a liquor license application with City of Atlanta last week for the sales of liquor, beer and wine. The application was approved this week (margarita, anyone?)

The restaurant will replace the now shuttered Matador Cantina, at 925 Garrett Street. It is unlikely that the space will undergo any renovations or remodeling as Tierra has yet to file any building permit applications. Typically, restaurants apply for liquor licenses as a last step before opening.

The restaurant’s official opening date has not been confirmed.

Developing…

Can this Mexican restaurant succeed where another one has recently failed? Leave your thoughts in the comments below.

  1. My daughter missed Matador and when she saw the Tierra sign was so excited to have Mexican food as an option in walking distance again. We’re hopeful that this new restaurant will be able to stay open – I believe the key is great customer service. That was an element that was missing at the previous restaurant.

  2. Anything can succeed at Glenwood Park look at Vickery’s (8 years), Shed (6) and Gunshow ( can you get in?). Mexican – hell ya now that the filth hole El Matadot run by the Queen of all Skanks Sarah, the vile one is gone. VIVA TIARA

  3. I think the issues with the mixed-use Glenwood Park location includes residents/neighbors that object to a location that does any volume of late night business (Vickerys never seems to have more than 2 tables after 9:30 p.m., right) and ultimately create problems for the operator, and that the commercial leases likely escalate as the restaurants do more volume or simply as time passes, and it gets to the point the hassles and the expensive rent is not worthwhile of continuing the operation. We’ll see.

  4. So Mezcalitos, Agave, Mi Barrio, Caramba Cafe, Tin Lizzy’s, Tomatillos and Holy Taco just weren’t enough Mexican restaurants for the neighborhood? It’s great to see new developments, but some diversity would be appreciated.

  5. The Matador was, perhaps, the worse mexican food I have ever had. The ONLY saving grace was the fantastic salsa, but even that was torpedoed by the stale/soapy tasting chips.YECHHH!!!!

  6. Oh heck, I was hoping a brew pub would open there or something other that Mexican food. I agree with parkerleigh, all those place are within a blocks/mile of each other.

  7. Tierra-ble Mexicana. I was excited to have a Mexican restaurant within walking distance of my house but alas, the Universe had other plans. I had great service but the food and margaritas were awful. So disappointing 🙁

  8. This place will have a hard time making it given the excellent choices of Mexican food in the surrounding neighborhoods. I have to say this place is worse than Matador. I certainly didn’t think that was possible. The service staff is nice but very slow and the food is not good at all. Not a fan of the margaritas either. Good thing there are other options to satisfy my craving for Mexican food.

  9. Should be Cuban food like the original Glenwood Park restaurant that was supposed to go where Vickerys ended up. Glenwood Park keeps making bad decisions & the new Glenwood Place is going to create a traffic nightmare in the area
