Is Virginia Highlands’ “Hand In Hand” Next?

Fox and Hounds, an English pub located at 1193 Collier Road, has closed.

After serving the Atlanta community for nearly 15 years, the owners decided to pull the plug early this week. Insiders suggest high priced menu items, compared to those of other Atlanta pubs, ultimately led to their demise.

Sources say employees showed up for work to find this printed on résumé paper posted on the front door: “After much thought, The Fox and Hounds is closing after 15 great years. Thank you to our customers for your outstanding support. We look forward to seeing you at the Hand in Hand when you are in the Virginia Highlands area.”

Fox and Hounds was owned and operated by the same owners of Hand In Hand, located in Virginia Highlands. Rumor has circulated that Hand In Hand is also closed, though a call to the restaurant confirms they are still in operation.

Fox and Hounds drew in crowds for years with its down-to-earth pub atmosphere, outdoor seating and an interior that was a cross between a classic English pub and a hunting lodge.

Fox and Hounds was known for their pints of hearty ale, fish-and-chips, bangers and mash, and vinegar and salt chips as well as tuna nicoise. Whisky drinkers were impressed by their scotch list.

  1. Hand in Hand will be next because their food is awful. Just really, really awful. The exact same menu that the Angel in Decatur had before they shut down.

  2. The only thing that may keep Hand in Hand in business is the drinking crowd. It still gets really busy on the weekends and the deck is popular during nice weather. But there food sucks bad! I think a much better establishment could take over this place. Something along this lines of Porter or Brick Store Pub.

  3. Don’t forget the shi$ty service at Fox and Hounds too! A good bar could easily survive in that part of town but leave it up to Derek Lawford to fu&k it up like he did with Engine 11.

  4. I loved Crash & TDog’s comments. Have you ever had their shi$ty, shi$ty hummus & communion wafer-esque hummus? Also, that’s interesting to know about him and Spotted Dog. I’ve always wondered how the HELL a bar made from A FU$KING FIRE HOUSE could ever go out of business.
