The California-based candy shop Thursday filed plans with City of Atlanta to open a âkioskâ in the Buckhead mall, at 3393 Peachtree Road.
Rosie OâNeill, a former Mattel executive overseeing marketing for the companyâs Barbie brand, co-founded Sugarfina in 2012 with now husband Josh Resnick.
âSugarfina began as a sweet little chapter in our love story,â the duo writes in the companyâs âaboutâ page.
âOn our third date, we went to a screening of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. After the film, we started daydreaming⊠wouldnât it be great if there was an innovative candy shop for grown-ups?â
And ta-da, the Sugarfina brand was born, as the story goes, retailing candies like Martini Olive Almonds, Champagne Bears, and Cuba Libre (spiced rum and cola).
Sugarfina Lenox Square is slated for a September opening, according to the âluxuryâ candy storeâs website.
Sugarfina has five stores in California and is opening a sixth location in San Jose this August, making the Atlanta boutique the gourmet candy retailerâs seventh store nationwide.
OâNeill was not immediately available for comment.
