After temporarily shuttering Urban Cannibals (UC) earlier this month, owners Calavino Donati and Doria Roberts, have decided to keep the East Atlanta Village (EAV) deli and bakery closed “indefinitely,” the duo on Facebook announced Monday.

Donati and Roberts made the decision to close UC in EAV to focus on the bodega’s forthcoming Midtown store in addition to their planned full-service restaurant Madre + Mason, and Virginia-Highland tea house.

Here’s the announcement in its entirety:

Good Morning! We have some good news and some updates…

First, we have made up for lost time on the new spaces by having UC in East Atlanta closed! This is a huge relief. We’re working on “fun stuff” like plumbing and hooking up the last bit of equipment. Aesthetics and such (which are all superficial, thankfully) have been underway but are moving at lightspeed this week!

Second, because of this we are keeping UC EAV closed until further notice (i.e. indefinitely) so that we don’t fall behind again. At some point, we’ll be starting inspections to finalize licensing and those can also lead to delays that we cannot control. This is why we’re making sure everything is done before we do that and control the variables available to us.
We know some of you are disappointed about EAV being closed, but we promise it will be worth it. We’ve waited a really long time for the opportunities we have right now and we want to do it right.

This little sacrifice of having UC closed is going to yield better results for not only us, but you as well. So, we thank you for your continued support and, most of all your, patience during this really exciting time for us!

Have a great day and see you later(ish)…

❤ Doria + Calavino
