American Bandstand Re-runs, Ed Sullivan And Live Jazz

Guys and gals with plans to hit the town, grab your poodle skirts and leather jackets, ’cause Midtown Atlanta’s food scene’s going retro.

3 Chefs Downtown, an eatery specializing in southern cuisine with a retro twist, is set to open at 1375 Peachtree Street on Friday, Oct. 22.

3 Chefs Downtown is the brainchild of Executive Chef Joel Young and entrepreneur, Kim Thompson. Young comes from a hospitality background having worked for various hotels across the country for the past 23 years. Thompson has owned and operated a mortgage finance company for the past 13 years.

“We’re bringing basic southern cuisine and jazz to Atlanta and paring it with American Bandstand re-runs and the Ed Sullivan Show,” said Young.

Young adds that guests can enjoy live jazz on Friday and Saturday and three decades worth of American Bandstand with Dick Clark and the Ed Sullivan show instead of sports all day.

  1. I work on the same block as this site and i really don’t see this going over with the lunch crowd around here, if they’re even planning on opening for lunch. The area is a ghost town at night.

  2. Muffin is right, this area is dead at night. Which is unfortunate, because this is a really pretty stretch of Peachtree through Midtown, with nice wide sidewalks and an overall attractive, urban streetscape.

We’ve been living near this stretch of Peachtree for four years now and I’ve been disappointed with the lack of pedestrian/nighttime activity here. There are too many office buildings with no ground-level retail space, so there’s just not much to build into the area that expands activity beyond 9-5, M-F office workers.

I wish them luck. The menu looks good. Maybe this is the business that will bring people in to this area and start a trend of nighttime activity.

  3. madison grill only managed to stay there for 5 years because of the earthlink employees, but now that the company is a shell of its former self, i give these new tenants 6 months tops.

  4. Are they planning of having Liquor, beer and wine? I haven’t seen any City of Atlanta License Apps for this location. As a matter of fact, I havent seen any building permits posted for this addy either.

    1. hi carl– you are right! no building permits here (failure to apply or lack of necessity for the work they are doing). i can say that you should look out for a liquor license though 😉

      best regards,

      –cjs

  5. hey all – we represent the owner for this space in Midtown. There is not even an executed lease for this deal so I am quite perplexed at how this was even annonced to be opening? The deal has not been completed and we are not certain in its completion at this time.

  6. Much sucess to 3 Chefs, Im quite sure documents and permits will be submitted when the time comes. WOW to the haters

  7. Amy Fingerhut is that you on the blog?…..CBRE Richard Ellis, the firm that does not let minorities open anything big, without giving them a hard time….Is that you blogging? The spelling is “announced” Amy. We have heard from others how minorities have been treated with CBRE..Well 3 Chefs, welcome to the good ole boys system in Atlanta, well the people of Atlanta welcomes small business minoritites into retail business space here. Its a shame that 3 Chefs have been working on that deal for almost a year, and get worked over because CBRE wants a large chain there..If only the California Teachers union whom owns that building knew what was going on in Atlanta…Hummmmmm? Folks, some things never change, people hiding behind positions, making it hard for others. Keep going strong 3 Chefs, we know the great service and food, would have been a great asset to the community and businesses in that area…1375 Peachtree Ne, Pershing Point Plaza. O dont forget the main Boss Hog of CBRE Richard Ellis, Chris Port…As of today, we will be sending in a petition to the California Teachers Union in support of the restaurant…3 Chefs, we need you.

  8. Good luck Joel Young and Kim Thompson Young particularly, when the Executive Chef has a $42,000 active bond in Stamford, Connecticut for fraud. Good luck with that Atlanta!

  9. Wow, that is not true. The executive chef has never been to connecticut, further more thats another person
