Restaurant franchise ventures inside the perimeter to open its fourth location.

UPDATE (August 15, 2012): Olde Towne Tavern and Grille reopens as Tavern 360

Olde Towne Tavern & Grille is opening an intown location.

The sports bar will replace the now shuttered Saskatoon restaurant in Buckhead.

Saskatoon first replaced Harry Bissett’s of Athens at its space inside the Atrium at Buckhead (formerly Alexan Buckhead), a luxury retail and residential complex located at 360 Pharr Road, in early 2010.

In September 2010, Saskatoon was listed for lease through the Shumacher Group.

Bob Moravek will open the Olde Towne Tavern & Grille Buckhead franchise in Saskatoon’s place, according to Frankie Merriam, operations manager for the restaurant chain’s three existing locations.

Olde Towne Tavern & Grille has locations in Lawrenceville, Kennesaw and Suwanee.

The sports bar will open its Buckhead location “early 2012,” according to several signs posted on the restaurant’s windows. What Now Atlanta contacted Moravek for comment. He was not immediately available.

  1. 3 or 4 restaurants have failed in this space. It really may be the location. Why take the unnecessary risk to open here when so many have failed. Go elsewhere. Don’t convince yourself that your restaurant/bar is that much better than those before you.

  2. this is an old spondivits space too. it seems like nothing stays longer than a year in or around that building.

with locations in lawrenceville, kennesaw and suwanne …. buckhead atlanta is clearly the next logical step.

  3. First off, it’s Suwanee. Secondly, Olde Towne is absolute crap. Crap service, crap food, crap atmosphere. It’s not even that cheap. I predict a quick close.

  4. I am not sure Buckhead is the next logical step because they have existing locations in Suwanee, lawrenceville and Kennesaw. Maybe try a snellville next. There are enough things stacked against this restaurant/bar making succeding in Buckhead as it is, why add another on your own, when it can be avoided. We loved Bissets but never went because the parking and location just don’t work. 8-16 months tops

  5. Pretty soon I suspect Buckead Atlanta will see “No Towne” open open up. Right along side a mexican place called “Nada”

Atlanta is code blue. I’m glad we left but not happy to watch.

  6. This place is a block from my office, and honestly Olde Towne seems like a feasible lunch option. Right now, there really isn’t an easy place to grab lunch or have a beer that isn’t “themed” (Irish, Thai, Japanese). Blue Moon Pizza is a suburban concept that seems to be doing pretty good right down the street from here. I must admit, though, that this whole area has a real challenge when it comes to easy parking for all of these restaurants in the bottom of failed condos and apartments. And it sounds silly, but the amount of people that don’t pick up after their dogs has made the sidewalk in front of Atrium a smelly mess, especially when it’s hot.

  7. And the degredation of the city, to the character-less, mindless, creativity-less suburbs continues.

Granted Saskatoon sucked offal balls, but the sure sign that this new place is going to be a haven for the dipshits who can’t muster the idea of spending more than $15 on an entree, is the fact that it’s a “tavern” from “old towne”, and there’s a “grillE”. Honestly, did the founders of this shithouse try and figure out how many unecessary vowels they could fit into the name? It’s like a Wheel of Fortune puzzle for retards.

To everyone on here that gripes about how difficult parking is in this area, here’s a novel suggestion. Park your car two blocks away and walk over there. Based on the above average number of lard-asses in this city, it wouldn’t hurt a few people to walk a few blocks, particularly after filling their gullets with this kind of crap.

  8. brad- elbowroom is right there and its pretty awesome for a buckhead dive bar (is that an oxymoron?). Parking in that entire area is worthless, which used to make sense when it was actually bars/clubs – but now?

I’ve given up on Atlanta ever having a viable public transportation system, or the GDOT making any intelligent move, but *Atlanta really needs a new approach to parking – can they try anything besides useless meters??* Is this really the best use of government money? space? is it beneficial to the owners of the establishments? And NOW Atlanta has to PAY park Atlanta millions dollars??[http://www.wsbtv.com/news/news/local/report-city-owes-millions-park-atlanta/nFkrq/] – who is running all of this and letting these terrible decisions being made – someone needs to be held responsible for this mess.

If they fire FIRE Park Atlanta – ill actually pay all of my tickets.

  9. You’re right “tricks,” the Elbow Room is a good solid choice.

On another note, I have to say one of my fascinations with this site is the absolute hatred some readers spew for all things suburban. I see just as many people wearing Crocs and “Life is Good” shirts in Atlanta as I do in Alpharetta and McDonough.

These are businesses, not social experiments. Buckhead (though not exactly my cup of tea) is long past being able to appeal to the cutting edge. I personally have to hand it to those who are willing to put some money behind anything as risky a bar or restaurant in 2012.

  10. URBANIST… MOST PEOPLE DO NOT WANT TO EAT A GODDAMNED EXPENSIVE, GOURMET MEAL ALL THE TIME.

DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY BARS WITH SHITTY FOOD EXIST IN NEW YORK CITY? A LOT! I KNOW… BECAUSE I USED TO LIVE THERE!

SOMETIMES PEOPLE JUST WANT TO GO TO A BAR AND EAT A CRAPPY, INEXPENSIVE MEAL. MOST PEOPLE DO NOT WANT TO EAT $20 PER ENTREE MEALS EVERY FREAKING NIGHT, ESPECIALLY IF THEY ARE DRINKING!!

    GET OVER YOURSELF ALREADY.

  11. @ Mike – I don’t want to eat an expensive and gourmet meal every time too. Particularly if God had damned it. There’s a lot of ground – that shitty chain restaurants don’t occupy – between OldE TownE Tavern & GrillE and “Expensive & Gourmet”.

I do know how many bars with shitty food exist in NYC, and you’re right, it’s a lot. But I also know how many world class restaurants there are, and smaller, less notable, but equally creative restaurants. There’s a good balance. Here, not so much.

Just because you’re a cheap bastard doesn’t mean the rest of us are.

  12. This place is out of business because it was terrible. Canadian themed wild game in a bad location in Buckhead? That place was doomed the minute someone typed out that sentence into a business plan.

I suspect an Outback steakhouse or any other place that is perceived as offering good value would do well here. Then again, so would a nursery.
