The Atlanta-based restaurant group this week filed plans to build a new location of the national quick-service fried chicken chain from the ground up, at 839 Cleveland Ave SW.

An estimated $425,000 will be spent erecting the 2,695-square-foot Popeyes.

Founded in 1995, Aaron’s restaurant group has 23 Popeyes restaurants and two Krispy Kreme Doughnut stores, according to 755’s website.

The locations are scattered all throughout the greater metro-Atlanta area, everywhere from Griffin to Marietta.

  1. So, you say this is in East Point but the permits were pulled in Atlanta? Sounds like it is just on the EP/ATL border then, but technically in Atlanta.

      1. Hey Caleb, this is actually in Atlanta. It is right on the border but on the Atlanta side. You may want to update the headline. I have looked into this and verified it with both a East Point councilperson and East Point Planning and Zoning. East Point will be providing them with water but all everything else (taxes, electrical) will be Atlanta.

  2. This is essentially a relocation of the Popeye’s that closed on Metropolitan last year. The location is across the street from the new Walmart in East Point. On that part of Cleveland Ave, the north side of the street is Atlanta and the southside is East Point hence the Atlanta permitting. This location should benefit from the Walmart traffic and development of the area surrounding Walmart.

  3. Don’t see Church’s Chicken lasting long after Popeye’s opens. Better food, lost business for EP with a gain for Atlanta.

    1. EP has a ton of wing places as it is. So the Churches and Popeyes may be able to co-exist. After all, there is a Chick-fil-a further down Cleveland towards downtown EP.
