Restaurant transitioning from casual Italian to American cuisine.

Baroni, a casual Italian style restaurant from the owners of Midtown’s Baraonda and Publik, is closing in Buckhead.

The Italian restaurant replaced Wolf Gang Puck Express inside the Brookwood Place shopping center, located at 1745 Peachtree Street, in late 2010.

Baroni’s last day open will be tonight, Dec. 31, according to Damir Kamber, manager at the Italian restaurant.

In about two weeks, Fig Jam Kitchen Bar, an “American style restaurant with a twist of some international cuisine,” will open in Baroni’s place, Kamber told What Now Atlanta in a telephone interview Saturday.

“The owners wanted to do something different in the space,” Kamber said. “Baroni wasn’t doing it for them.”

Fig Jam’s interior will have an “industrial feel” and will offer live entertainment.

Although the menu was not up for discussion, Kamber said it will include “small, medium and large plates.”

Whatever that means.

My wife and I were at Baroni the day that it opened, and there the day that it closed. We will really miss having a little place like it just blocks from our home, but it will be interesting to see what Fig Jam has to offer.

My husband and I just ate there last weekend, and it was still very good, but a virtual dead zone. We enjoy Baronda as well, so I’m sure Fig Jam will be a great place.

Baroni might have been an acceptable neighborhood spot, but a good restaurant, it was not. It was moreso one of those places that you’d go to when you had to eat something, but you didn’t really care what it was. Slightly gimmicky, super bland, and cheap….kind of like an Italian Applebees without other locations.

Not sure what Fig Jam will be (but with live entertainment, it already sounds gimmicky), but it would hard for it to not be an improvement.
