It’s getting fishy in West Midtown. But in a good way.

Ford Fry, the Atlanta chef who founded the popular JCT Kitchen, has announced a name for his new Westside fish camp restaurant: The Optimist, set to open in the spring of 2012.

What Now Atlanta was the first to break the news of Fry’s newest restaurant ventures in July.

The Optimist and will serve sustainable seafood prepared in a wood-burning oven.

Fry will also open a more casual spot next door, called Oyster Bar at The Optimist. Oyster Bar will be a “fish camp’” style eatery with an outdoor patio and live music, according to a press release.

Fry filed a permit with City of Atlanta for the construction of his new West Midtown restaurants, early November. The estimated cost for the build-outs is $500,000.00, according to the permit.

The name of Fry’s newest restaurants was suggested by his father, a sailing enthusiast. “Optimist,” in sailing, is the name of the sailboat, or dinghy, used by children.
