Developer’s proposed name: “The Hanger.”
It’s gonna be a super fly space.
And that’s why several respected Atlanta restaurateurs have been trying to land a lease for the hanger, according to developer and longtime Grant Park resident, William Michael Shelton.
Shelton talked with Creative Loafing in 2006 discussing the project and after nearly 5 years, the space will be ready for lease around February, 2011.
Located at 300 Oakland avenue behind Tin Lizzy’s in Grant Park, the space will be occupiable after undergoing window installation, stucco and electrical construction.
“I’ve been held up by the city getting the building permit. It took two years to get the damned thing.”
Though we can’t disclose the Atlanta based restaurant groups that are interested in the space, we can say it looks promising.

Fantastic news on this space – we have been waiting to hear after so much action then a sudden stall – glad to see there is interest – another great additon to the neighborhood I hope!
I think the restaurant should be called Quonset.
Skreet’s right. It’s not an ‘airplane hangar’. It’s a Quonset hut. My Grant Park history is iffy, but I don’t know that there was ever an “airport” in Grant Park. Some Quonset huts are/were located at airports, but they are not exclusive to airports. I believe Gomer Pyle, USMC bunked in one. Maybe Gomer’s Barracks is more appropriate?
