Moe’s Original Barbecue Klaims Kool Korners Space In Midtown

moe's barbecue to open in the kool korners space in midtown ~ what now, atlanta?

Packing Heat

After Kool Korners was sold, bought and renovated, the new landlord tried to recruit a sandwich shop in hopes of finding a worthy replacement.

Nearly nine months later, the space has been leased to Moe’s Original Barbeque. It’s no sandwich shop but it is slated to open in January, 2011.

Michael Eric Gamble of G+G Architects purchased Kool Korners when owner, ILdefonso Ramirez, relocated to his hometown in Alabama leaving Atlanta hungry for Cuban style sandwiches.

Jerry’s Barber Shop, shown in the picture above, was all that remained of Kool Korners.

Moe’s Original Barbecue features ‘Bama-style’ pulled pork, ribs, turkey and chicken smoked over hardwood served with two unique sauces plus eight to ten traditional Southern sides and tasty desserts.

Founded in 2001 in Vail, CO by Alabama natives Mike Fernandez, Ben Gilbert and Jeff Kennedy, Moe’s has 16 locations in Denver, Englewood, Bear Creek, Fort Collins, Eagle and Vail, Colorado, Orange Beach, Daphne, Fairhope, Hoover, Vestavia Hills, Lakeview, Tuscaloosa, Huntsville, Birmingham, Alabama and Asheville, North Carolina.

Kool Korners will be home to location number 17 with plans for further expansion in the Atlanta market.

Are they taking the space with the roof top patio?

I was hoping for a neighborhood bar for that space! Doesn’t appear that they are that type of establishment…

They have improved the parking lot behind the restaurant so you no longer need an all terrain vehicle to get in and out of it. Also parking available along State St if the lot is full.

While Moe’s has a lot of locations, they are a down home, neighborhood type place with good food.
